Do I need any
previous knowledge or experience?
The emphasis in this class is on independent
learning to enable students to work on their own
projects, you should therefore have a reasonably
comprehensive knowledge of popular patchwork and
quilting techniques as basic skills are not
included in this course.
You should also have a desire to explore and
experiment with new ideas for your own personal
development!
How much time
will it take?
Time devoted to project work is up to the
individual, but generally new techniques started
in class will need to be finished off at home.
Some patchwork and quilting techniques take
longer than others and students should set aside
a few hours each week to experiment and complete
work to make the most of the course.
What support is
available?
The tutor will support students with learning related to the subject and give advice on where to purchase materials etc... If students have any specific needs such as learning, financial or disability difficulties and you would like to speak to me (Lynne) in confidence, please contact me.
The Linnaeus Study Room at the Botanic Garden is on level access and there are disabled facilities and car-parking space.
What should I
bring to the first meeting?
A similar copy of this information will be sent to you in advance of the course and this will have requirements for the first day.
Is there
anything else I need to know (material costs,
exam fees)?
Students will need to have their own materials
for the course, though generally when new
techniques are being undertaken, students get
together as a group to share the cost.
It is not necessary to make any purchases in
advance of the class.
We also have a stock cupboard in class with
useful items such as rotary cutting equipment
available for general use. I ask students to
contribute £2.50 per term towards this, enabling
me to keep the cupboard well-stocked with
various gadgets! Some of this money also goes
towards buying books and extending our modest
library!
There are no exams as this is a leisure course.
