What will the
course cover?
1. The Craft Unit - Patchwork and Quilting
This is divided into five overall subjects and
covers both traditional and contemporary
techniques. You will build up a portfolio of
samples in the following categories.
1. Non-block patchwork - English piecing, Crazy
patchwork, Cathedral window, Folded patchwork,
Textured/manipulated fabric and Logcabin.
2. Block patchwork - American blocks, Curved
piecing, Foundation piecing, Distorted blocks.
3. Applique - By hand & machine, Reverse
applique, Shadow applique, Broderie Perse, Bias
strip, One-piece Hawaiian, Layering & Slashing
and Cutwork.
4. Quilting - By hand and machine, Wholecloth,
Knotting and tufting, Italian Corded, Trapunto,
Sashiko and Kantha.
5. Finishing techniques - Layering-up, Borders
and Bindings, Piping, Decorative edges 6.
Additional techniques - Rotary cutting
techniques including Seminole and fabric
weaving. Hand-made books and boxes.
Assessment
projects
You will make a range of technique samples and
towards the end of a particular subject make an
assessment project based on a technique you want
to explore further.
The items chosen for the five assessment
projects are selected from the following
categories:
